Good Soil — A Letter for Parents
A short note a leader can adapt and send home before a session, or hand out alongside safety-privacy-onepager.md. Fill in the bracketed group name and sign it as yourself. Everything else is written to be usable as it stands — it isn't a skeleton needing legal answers filled in later; the answers below are drawn from the game's own live /privacy page.
Dear parents and caregivers,
We're trying out a game called Good Soil with [group/class name] — a gentle Christian farming game, free to play in a web browser. Kids tend a small farm and help their neighbors, and along the way meet Bible verses and short teaching moments — never something required to enjoy the game, never a reward they have to earn.
A few things you might want to know:
Do they need an account? No. For this activity, we won't be asking your child to sign in at all — the whole game plays without one. (Accounts, when someone chooses to make one, are for age 14 and up; under 14, the game doesn't offer sign-in and never asks for anything.)
What does the game collect if nobody signs in? Nothing. No account, no analytics, no advertising, no tracking of any kind. Their farm lives only in their own browser, on their own device.
Can other players contact my child? Not through anything typed. There is no chat, and no way for one player to type a free message to another — the most one player can ever send another is a short fixed phrase, like "thank you." This only applies to an optional "neighbors" feature, and it requires an account.
How does this session actually work? Kids look for answers to a few questions by playing the game and finding things in it — a short Bible scene, a character's line, a quote on a noticeboard. When they find one, they take a screenshot on their own device to show they found it. Nothing is uploaded or submitted through the game — the screenshot itself is the whole of the "proof," and it stays on their device unless you or your child choose to share it however your classroom already does.
Cost, ads, purchases: Free. No ads, and nothing in the game can be bought — there is no shop and no way to spend money in it, so your child cannot run up a bill.
One honest note: this is a new game from a small studio. We've read closely how it handles privacy and safety, and we think it's worth trying carefully together — but it hasn't yet been reviewed by an outside lawyer or a curriculum board, and we're not presenting it to you as a fully vetted children's ministry product. If you'd rather wait, or want more detail before your child plays, we'd genuinely rather you asked.
Questions, or want to opt your child out of this activity? Reach us at hello@churchwiseai.com, or read the game's own privacy page yourself at https://goodsoilgame.com/privacy.
